PRISONS - POLICE – MILITARY

Videoovervåkning_militær

High-security markets and end-users like prisons, police and military value our focus and tradition on advanced video analysis. These kind of end-users are facing threats both from the people they are serving and protecting as well as from external sources. These end-users are in the first line of facing multiple threats and their opponents are using extreme and innovative measures.

Detec AS' solutions for perimeter security and our advanced video analysis is well adapted at facing many of the requirements these end-users have. Detec Next VMS with Advanced+ and PRO licenses has a highly accurate detection module with robust extraction of objects from background. This leads to more reliable high-end analysis enabling recognition of events with a minimum of false alarms.

Adding to this, Detec Next VMS can make good use of thermal vision cameras. Especially for perimeter security, using hybrid thermal and optical cameras with so-called videofusion is highly relevant to combine with Detec Next Advanced+ or PRO video analysis.

Detec AS Recommends Multiple Layers of Perimeter Detection

Videoovervåkning_perimeter

With Detec Next VMS you are also able to add multiple detection layers for perimeter intrusion. Often, for example in military applications, you have several critical buildings/objects within a perimeter you want to protect. Each building/object should be secured adequately in regards to size and what physical barriers are in place.

You should define an outer perimeter, a perimeter line, critical zones within the perimeter and the critical object(s) within the perimeter. How the different perimeters are secured depend first and foremost on their size, distances and communication lines to security central.

Video surveillance using video analysis should first and foremost be selected where it is possible to cover the perimeter line with max. 30 meters between each camera. If the distance is bigger, you should choose other types of detectors in combination with PTZ cameras for verification. With even bigger distances one should cover the outer perimeter and perimeter line with radar(s) and powerful hybrid thermal and optical IR PTZ IP cameras which can zoom in on objects detected by radar.

Detec Next VMS- and Camera License Model for Perimeter Security

The Detec Next VMS has since the start been developed to be a tool for operators to handle and respond to alarm. Thus, having a well developed user interface for perimeter security. The Detec Next VMS has features such as:

  • Built-in Map mode with interactive icons
  • Alarm mode for alarm handling and response
  • Acknowledgement routines
  • Fields for user-defined alarm instructions
  • Rule engine for automatic actions, prioritization on alarms
  • Easy-to-use search methods to retrieve alarm events from one or multiple cameras, etc.

Detec Next VMS has two types of camera licenses;

Detec Next Advanced+ Camera/Module License

Detec Next PRO Camera/Module License

Videoovervåkning_perimeter

With these types of licenses, you are able to create detection criteria to capture the following events:

  • Object moving within an area
  • Object trespassing an area
  • Object stops
  • Object moves abnormally slow/fast
  • Object appears in an area
  • This is made possible through so-called low-, mid- and high-level algorithms

On low-level algorithms, which involves extracting objects precisely and robustly from background, Advanced+ and PRO has the following settings: tamper alarm, adaptive historic background update, frame rate, sensitivity/intensity, shadow removal and AGC/iris/gamma compensation. PRO also has a powerful texture setting.

På lavnivåalgoritmer, som innebærer å trekke ut objekter nøyaktig og robust fra bakgrunnen, har Advanced + og PRO følgende innstillinger:

  • Manipulasjonsalarm
  • Adaptiv historisk bakgrunnsoppdatering
  • Bildefrekvens
  • Følsomhet / intensitet
  • Skyggefjerning og AGC / iris / gammakompensasjon
  • PRO har også en kraftig teksturinnstilling

In Detec Next video analysis, an alarm is a recognized object following a recognized motion pattern. Alternatively, that a recognized motion pattern cease. The Detec Next system can be adapted to each site with tailored classifications for objects. In Detec Next PRO, you will operate with as many object classifications as needed to cover the site’s needs. With Detec Next PRO installations, you will often have complex criteria for when an alarm shall trigger, and therefore you operate with multiple regions per camera. You define regions in order for the system to interpret in what direction objects move. You also need to adjust the perspective for each camera, often with great precision, in order for the system to calculate an object’s size accurately, altough the tracking algorithms are more important than object size and shape which are more prone to erroneous interpretation.

Detec Next systems have high demands to robustness, and in Detec Next Advanced+/PRO, there are a number of algorithms not available in the other models, such as:

Robust detection of changes with clutter in the image, such as camera noise, rain, snow, motion and shadows from trees, bushes, flags and similar

Robust detection of changes created by light variations in the image, such as lamps switching on and off, doors opening and shutting, car headlights passing by, as well as compensation for camera AGC, iris and gamma adjustments

Robust adaption to background of both fast and slow movements that shall be considered normal

Correct segmentation of objects by filling out missing parts of detected objects, and remove objects’ shadows in order to create as precise object analysis as possible (shadows with hard edges and great contrast to background will not be removed).

Advanced tracking of objects, where objects disappearing behind other objects (pillars etc.) will be captured again when re-appearing on the other side. Furthermore, the algorithms will be able to differentiate between objects touching, passing or crossing each other (objects following each other over time will be interpreted as one object)

Detection on objects parking

You can configure alarms to call them anything you like, and these will be uniquely marked in the alarm list.

With multiple types of alarms, you can also give different alarms different priority. Then, alarms with the highest priority will be on the top of the alarm list until acknowledged.

In Detec Next VMS, you can set up command sets with advanced time control in calendar. You can create one or more rule sets per camera, selected multiple cameras or all cameras. For each rule set, you can have an unlimited number of rules per condition. That means that you can trigger a series of reactions with belonging or all modules if a detection or IO alarm should trigger on a module. In the same command set, you can also set up rules for actions, e.g. that real-time images from camera x, y, z shall be sent to client 1, 2, 3 as well as to web-interface for pop-up alarm on mobile units.

With Detec Next camera license, you can also set up guard tours for PTZ cameras, and send warnings via e-mail/SMS/MMS. These features also make use of command rule sets.

Cameras and Video Analysis

An important criteria for the best possible perimeter detection is that the video quality is as good as possible and there is as little doubt as possible that there is an intruder being detected. This gives the following priority on types of video where the best type is last:

  • Regular optical images with IR light
  • Thermal video images
  • Radiometric thermal video images
  • Fused optical and thermal video images
  • See the below recommended cameras

REGULAR OPTICAL IMAGES WITH IR LIGHT

As a minimum, for perimeter detection, an optical camera should have built-in 30m IR-light, motorized varifocal lens with at least 3-9mm, digital noise reduction and wide dynamic range. The most usual is using bullet cameras, but that is depending on installation height. If the camera is within reach it should be an IK10 vandal proof minidome.

THERMAL VIDEO IMAGES

Thermal cameras display images of objects and background based on temperature information. By using thermal cameras, one will avoid a number of unwanted alarms related to moving lights and shadows, darkness and difficult weather conditions. In a few cases, the cameras will have trouble separating objects from background. Especially so in heavy rain on big distances where water will occlude temperature information.

Radiometric thermal video imagesDetec Thermal Camera

To elevate the perimeter security a notch and get less unwanted alarms, one can make use of Detec radiometric thermal cameras. With these cameras we are in full control of the camera AGC avoiding the camera to be blinded by sudden large hot objects. You can also set up a fire detection alarm applying a Detec Next RAD license. This may be wanted on military perimeter lines for camps surrounded by woods for example, or inside a compound containing flammable goods or waste. The same camera can be set up with both PRO and RAD license if practical.

HYBRID DUAL THERMAL AND OPTICAL IP CAMERAS

With hybrid thermal and optical IP cameras you can combine the best of two technologies with fused images from both the thermal and the optical module - videofusion. For high-security perimeters requiring a minimum of false alarms this technology is the recommended way to go. Compared to conventional thermal cameras there are some low-cost alternatives that are ideal for advanced video analysis.

ANPR

Hybrid PTZ Cameras

There are also hybrid thermal and optical PTZ cameras on the market. These are recommended for the outer perimeter. The thermal module will be able to show detection information on small objects over great distances. The optical module will be used to verify what the object is. This must also be considered as a verification tool from other detection sources, such as radars. The benefit, is that the camera will be able to identify alarm sources independent from camera noise in conventional PTZ cameras such as strong backlight, darkness and difficult weather conditions.

Detec Automatic Number Plate Recognition

For high-security applications like prisons, police and military, vehicle control posts are necessary and important.

Detec AS has an integrated ANPR-module that can run in the same user interface. You can read more about Detec Next ANPR here.

Detec - Optex

Detec Next VMS and Optex Detectors

Detec Next VMS and Optex Detectors have technologies complementing each other. Integration of IP-based detectors on the Detec Next platform will give high-security customers complete and reliable security solutions with multiple layers of perimeter security.

Radar Detection

Radar Detection

Detec Next VMS also offers integration towards different radar solutions for detectio of persons, vehicles and other moving objects. Video analysis and radar technology are two technologies complementing each other well, and should carefully be considered in high-security applications with wide areas such as military facilities. Radar technology can detect intruders on large areas and determine distance, attack angle and object speed. The technology is not impacted by weather conditions that are challenging for cameras.
